Palazzo Braschi and the Museo di Roma at a glance

Palazzo Braschi stands between Piazza Navona and Corso Vittorio Emanuele II. The architect Cosimo Morelli planned it for Luigi Braschi Onesti, a nephew of Pope Pius VI. The new building went up from 1792, after the earlier building on the site was pulled down. Today it houses the Museo di Roma, the city museum.

The permanent collection is on the 2nd and 3rd floors. Special exhibitions are a separate ticket and a separate price. The entrances are on Piazza San Pantaleo 10 and Piazza Navona 2.

Lift: since 17 September 2026 the lift has been temporarily out of order. Do not plan on step-free access without checking the museum's current notices first.

The views of Piazza Navona

What the museum shows of the square, and what it does not.

Rooms with windows to the square

Some rooms of the museum have windows toward Piazza Navona. You see the oval from inside the building, from the height of the upper floors.

No rooftop terrace to count on

The museum offers a view from its rooms. Do not plan your day around a publicly accessible roof terrace.

The shape of the stadium

From above the ground, the long oval is easier to read. The square follows the track of an ancient stadium; see the Stadium of Domitian page for what is closed and what you can see outside.

How to visit Palazzo Braschi well

Practical points before you go.

Buy on the day or in advance

The same-day ticket office does not add the €1 advance fee. If you want a fixed date, advance booking costs €1 more.

Check the lift notice

If you need step-free access, check the museum's notices shortly before your visit. The outage dates from 17 September 2026, and this page cannot give a repair date.

Decide on the exhibition

The collection ticket and the exhibition ticket are different. Choose which one you want before you queue.

Combine it with the square

The museum fits in a short break between the fountains. The Pantheon is in the same part of the centre; the Pantheon guide has the details.

This site is an independent guide and does not sell museum tickets. Prices and rules follow what the museum lists for 2026; check the ticket page before you go.
